August update

Almost 2 months since I updated the blog - have been to the plots every week, weeding and picking stuff. Have had quite a few courgettes, they are really tasty, not bland like shop-bought ones (Striato di Napoli from http://www.realseeds.co.uk/) although not as many as I had expected from 4 plants - I guess the autumnal temperatures (max has regularly been 16c) and lack of sun haven't been the best conditions for Mediterranean veg.

Had quite a lot of peas and broad beans, my runner beans have just started to produce, look like they will be quite good, also very tasty.

Dismal failure with carrots and beetroot - hardly any carrots have germinated, and the beetroots have appeared but instead of juicy bulbs, have pathetic stalks.

Spuds were ok yield-wise, but flavour wasn't spectacular - planted 5 varieties, so again am going with blaming the weather...

Strawberries were quite tasteless, and lots were slug damaged.

I did well with the slug & snail breeding (unintentional unfortunately!)
